Out Behind the Red Barn

Often I say “Universe, are you listening?” when I want something. Earlier this year, I randomly threw out that statement on the way to a Miranda Lambert concert at the Forum in Los Angeles. Our seats were Section 227 Row 22 Seat 5 and 6. These were as far away from the stage as I could be but I did have a great view of the video screen and the sound was great. It was a fabulous concert. As I remember, Jon Pardy was great too. When I got the email from the Miranda Lambert fan club, yes, I signed up for it, with the Pistol Annie’s concert alert. I knew I would be going and I would be getting floor tickets, no matter what. However, I did write to the venue and request a press pass and did not get a response and could not find a way to contact the band on the Annie’s website other then by emailing them or Instagramming so I took matter’s into my own hands and Baggallini. On November 7th, 2018, my husband drove me from Palm Desert, CA to the Novo in Los Angeles, CA. This was a little over 120 miles one way. We both had to work that day. His day started at 4 AM in the morning. He picked me up at 2 PM and we we were on our way. Date night had begun!

We arrived in Los Angeles around 4:45 PM and found a great parking spot in my old neighborhood. I refuse to pay for parking near the Staple Center. I lived in the Pico-Union area so I know places to park. We headed over to the Novo and waited in line for an hour before the doors opened. We met the coolest couple. I don’t remember the man’s name but his wife’s name was Michelle! When she saw that I was sneaking my Nikon in she said “Stick with me, I have floor tickets too!” Anyhow, I was lucky, my dismantled Nikon made it in by some miracle. My heart was beating wildly as the venue security went through my purse. We quickly headed to the floor area and I stationed myself between two towers (two 6ft plus tall men) that were about 3 feet from the stage. I only brought in the 18-55mm AF lens and hoped for the best. Once there were enough people around me I started getting the camera focused as best as I could as I new it would tight when the show started and I didn’t want to take any chances. Anyhow, The show was more that I could have hoped for. The ladies were fabulous! My only wish was that it didn’t end. Part way through the show, I got spooked. There was a guy standing on the side of the stage and he kept looking my way. He looked kind of important and he was on his phone and he pointed my way, so my husband and I left and moved to another part of the floor. I just couldn’t chance being asked to leave. Besides, with the way the world is now these days, I know that he is just trying to keeps these ladies and the musicians on stage safe. You know, one must be respectful, even when breaking the rules.

Hopefully, I will get a response the next time I reach out for a press pass even if it is a negative one. At least I know that I am reaching out to the right people. Maybe one day, I will get a positive one. until then, practice make perfect.

Peace and happy Friday to whoever is reading this. You can do it!

***Updating 2.10.2019 – This video was shot at the Novo in Los Angeles, CA.  I don’t think I will be doing this anytime soon.  Also, a little funny thing is that my and I saw Miranda Lambert at the Forum last February 10 at the Forum in Inglewood, CA.  I would do anything to be there right now.
