Good morning! Thank you CNN for the laughs on this August 18th, morning as I always need laughs. The banter and jokes between newscasters Alisyn Camerota and John Berman was comedic. I won’t go into the news story because I know that there are so many mixed opinions about opening schools before the virus is under control but just watching those two trying not to say Clusterfuck was the best. I was waiting for someone to bust out the old “Who is on first?” joke. To that brave group of students that wrote the scathing editorial, you go with your BAAAD selves! This my friends is what freedom of the press is, no matter if unsavory language is used. The post was effective, it got attention that is for sure, and it is getting conversations and investigations started and most importantly saving lives. The link to a story written by the Washington Press is posted below. My hats off to those brave students, led by senior editors seniors Anna Pogarcic and Paige Masten. May they inspire more young (and older folks like me) to investigate and speak out and strive for changes.

UNC-Chapel Hill’s student newspaper sums up school’s coronavirus policy with an f-bomb

So, this morning I was checking out the insights that WordPress tracks. I wonder what my numbers would look like if I put a little more effort into gaining viewers? Just recently, I have been mentioning the blog on both of my IG accounts. I have the personal one that I changed to private but noticed the uptick in “friend” requests than from the IG account that goes along with this blog, maybe because that account is open.

I’m on track to post the same number of posts from 2019.

The funny thing is my blog, although I try to make it look fancy, it really isn’t. It is what it is, a diary no matter how hard I try to make it be something else. (Laughing to myself). At first I toyed with covering live music events here in the valley in hopes of getting a coveted media pass from a reputable news organisation. Here is an example of how my brain works. What that chart above tells me is that I had surgery for Cauda Equina Syndrome and I was not working a normal job and had time to be me. Again, thank you Hubby!!!

Shots from the Event Horizon

I wrote that post (above) in hopes of finding aspiring entertainers that wanted to share their story through pictures and videos of their performances as I have hours and hours of footage of many bands, most of them were shot at Fantasy Springs on the DL. Here is one of videos that I shot in that room of Michael Monroe Goodman and his band the Honky Tonk Ninja’s. I motioned to Mr. Goodman from my seat in the lounge and mouthed “May I take photos?” I got the thumbs up and the rest was magic. I did do a little research on him after that night and he is also an actor. That explains his great stage presence and how he was in front of the camera. Truly, I was lucky that night!

I would love to do a photo shoot with this band!

There is just something about honky tonk music, it’s like Pringles, you just can’t stop at one song. Once my neck gets involved and it starts bobbing from side to side their is no escaping the infectious groove. Here is one more sample from that night. The band interaction was electric. We were lucky as I got a close seat by the pedal steel player. By the way, this one was shot in secret, I tried to hide the camera as I didn’t want to get caught. Also it was difficult to not get caught up and start dancing or to keep still. If you do watch the video, watch til the end!

Hubby was sitting on my right and I had the camera sitting in my lap with it pressed against my chest.

Just looking at the photos takes me back to the Lit Lounge or Tack Room or any bar that hubby has played in ot that we have sat in and watched live music. It reminds me of the free concerts that I happily stood shoulder to shoulder in front of the stage with my camera and other enthusiastic fans that were also taking photos. I just happened to be carrying a camera or two with detachable lenses.

I must be feeling nostalgic, as I am going to post one more video. I snuck my camera into a Pistol Annies show and got very close to the stage. I remember choosing to stand behind two towers, two very tall men. I needed to keep my camera out of sight as best as possible as I didn’t want to get asked to leave. I knew it was going to be a little difficult but when I heard the starting of Hush Hush, I went for it and recorded it. I did this while I was dancing and singing and bobbing my head.

I just noticed that it has over 8k in views…
One o my favorite shots from that night.

Anyhow, I post about places that we travel, entertainers we see and stories and that I wrote but really, it is just a peak into me. Maybe a future project will be If this Camera Could Talk…hmmm? So, hopefully, after I am long gone, my kids can visit here as well and hopefully get inspired or laugh or shake their heads. Hopefully, I will find another willing participant to interview after I am finished editing the Hubby interviews.

Thank you dear reader for joining me on that trip down memory lane and the little distraction from current events. Where ever you are traveling be cool be, kind and where you are going get there. Hugs!

    Howdy, M!

Thanks for the honky tonk music.

Anyway, the photos are so great. I believe one day you’re gonna publish a photo book (or two–or three) about the music scene in CV. 🙂

    Have a nice day! 🙂

    1. Hi!

Thanks for being so kind. You and another blogger on WP are the only ones to take time to message me and I really appreciate it! I published a book 3 years ago, a cheeky Joshua Tree book. Not sure if I want to go down that route again. I hate the rejection. 🙂 Wish I was kidding. However you, should publish a book! Your stories are personal and I love your point of view. Makes me, the reader feel like I am on the trip and part of your world, that is very hard to do. Hope you have a great day and glad you are well 🙂

Wow, that’s cool, M.:D Now I’m even more proud that my words and photos are commented by a published author. 😀

Yeah, I guess it’s a bit tricky to get published by a major publisher these days. But who knows that one day a photo editor will be blogwalking to Art of the Beat and interested in bundling your photos into a hardcover 😀 I believe the art is still there.

Thanks, M. It’s really nice to hear that. 😀

I hope you stay safe and well to. The other day I read a news about Jacob Blake. I wish such event never occurs in CV. Good morning! It’ 7.07 am here. 😀

      2. Good morning! You read about the Blake case. It is just unbelievable and distressing. I too wish these events would stop. Our country is so divided right now.

Yeah, Your words should be published. Technically, they are published on WordPress 🙂 I felt like was in the plain while reading that last post of yours just like I feel like I have been on a bus with travelers on one of your trips.
You are so right about getting published I know 🙂 I am still working on the interview with hubby. Hopefully I can get that all figured out.

Have a great day and hope you and Madam are doing well. Take care 🙂

        Good afternoon!

Yes, I read it on the local news portal. Can’t believe my eyes reading that he was shot multiple times in front of three kids.

Well, I have no idea where my country is going now. They are opening tourism while the death count is still increasing. As people with money have divided the country, protest is useless right now and the government just do things as they want. Sorry to get into this. But, yeah, you know… 😀

I felt the same when reading your post. I could picture sitting on your backyard or on your back seat enjoying the mysterious desert surrounding CV–or having a pint of beer listening to live music. 😀

Thank you. 😀 I hope you and your hobby are doing well too.

PS: I’ve just finished watching a Netflix series titled “Dark.” It’s really cool. Have you watched it?

      4. Hey! I was busy blogging! It has been rough getting to my computer lately. The heat keeps me away as our home does not get very cool. Thank goodness for fans.

Yeah, the Blake case is disturbing and only getting worse. Have you seen the latest news? The news just showed a video that looked like a scene out of the movie the Purge. It is frightening

I wonder about your country as I often get news about Indonesia on Google, probably because I communicate with you. None of the news stories are about the pandemic and yes I did get a story about travel and places to stay. I agree about the money dividing people. I have never been on the right side of wealth and do not understand their side. I never will. No worries, you can preach it! You are like the media for me. 🙂

Glad I was able to paint a good picture. One day if you ever make it out here! We are doing well just surviving the heat. Hubby has helped me make progress on learning guitar! He restrung my guitar and it is smaller and easier. Hope to post a video of me playing… HAHA

Dark? I will have to check it out. I have not heard of it. I think I am going to try and watch Madmen or Weeds as I have never seen those. Take care and hope you stay safe and well 🙂
