Hey there and good morning to you, it is February 1, 2021. Last night, I awoke to the news that my cousin is no longer on this earth. My Aunt, the last one on my Dad’s side, called me yesterday afternoon and let me know that my cousin was not doing well and was in the hospital. My Aunt explained that it was not Covid and she was in ICU. Anyhow, I went to bed around 5 PM last night night and around 1 AM when I awoke I saw that my Aunt had called. I knew. She didn’t want me to see the news on Facebook. She was right, I guess because everyone posted a memorial, it is true. How can this be? She and I are close in age and we just got back into to contact a few years ago. I had just been speaking to Hubby about her and the time she spent a few months with us back around 82-83. I remember being sad that we had to take her back to her mothers as I no longer had another person in the house that was close to my age. She was worldly and seemed much older than I. She was beautiful and had long curly hair and tan skin, her Dad, my Uncle, flew planes and was in the Air Force and lived at base in the Philippines. Also, she was just as tall as I was! It made me feel normal. We lost touch after that visit and I searched her out a few years ago. We often messaged each other and talked on the phone a few times. We made plans to see each other. My heart hurts right now.

This song just came on right now and it has feelings falling out of my eye.

Yesterday, before I heard the news, Hubby and I worked around the house and I painted. We were happily getting our place ready for the changes to come. We headed out early yesterday morning for our usual slow ride and breakfast. It was gorgeous. We drove out toward Palm Springs and headed out on Highway 111. Yesterday, there was a bike ride from Coachella to Palm Springs and we notices packs of cyclists.

We stopped to have breakfast near a remote control field in Palm Desert. The view was incredible. There was a guy flying a glider and I tried unsuccessfully to capture it!

D’oh! It is there if you squint!

After we came home and puttered. I was also painting through out the day. Paint a little, let it dry, do something else. It was funny that Sarah, a model and singer that I have photographed many times in the past few years posted a picture I doodled of her a few month ago when I started my journey into painting and reimagining my photos.

I did this in a few minutes. and on an index card.
This was taken at Fantasy Springs a few years ago.

I had been trying to nail down a photo of her that I wanted to paint and I finally did one, although I have hundreds of photos of her and the other model Lele., both ladies performing and in photo shoots. You see there are many times when I shoot something that I like as a photo but know would look better painted. Often I would use different filters to get the painted look but I guess I don’t need to again.

I friggin’ loooove that dress! It sparkles!!
Remember, I am just learning and not an artist or even have that figured out!

I tell ya, I have been very lucky to have been able to work with both of these talented women. I plan on doing a few more of Lele both singing and playing piano as well many of the other bands that I have captured with my cameras. Thank you, to all of you, that have been in front of my lenses, Y’all truly rock!

This was taken right after his cancer surgery in 2015.
Not perfect, but it is art and open to interpretation, right?

Life really is a journey and yes it is true, you never know if you like something or are good at something till you try it. Sometimes, you may have to try it, again and again until it feels right or it is out of your system. To all those horrible, “You can’t do it!” voices in my head, “I am deaf in one ear so scream louder or go away!”

Well, time to do stuff and dream, and sing and dance and what ever my 50 year old heart needs to do. May you dear reader get caught up in good memories, even if they roll down your cheek. Thank you, dear reader, for visiting. Wishing you all peace and joy today, no matter what comes your way. Hugs to you and you.

I’m sorry to hear about your cousin. 😦

This post is so deep, M, I almost shed tears reading the last paragraph.

And your paintings are cool. The colors are mature and I could feel that they are alive. πŸ™‚

    Take care πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you for concern and kind words. I think this is the worst part about getting old. One of my sisters just found out she has cancer a couple of days ago. I hadn’t spoke to her for four years and because of stupid reasons. 😦

It has been fun painting. I hope to get better πŸ™‚

      Ciao! πŸ™‚

Oh friend, I am very sorry to hear of your loss. And in this time of distance and isolation, it’s so hard to reconcile when we cannot reach out physically to touch or even see loved ones. I’m glad you have your art and photography for emotional release. Sending virtual hugs! ❀
