Art or something like it…

Hello out there! You made it to see another day and that is a beautiful thing. It is October 27, 2021 and Halloween is only four days away. This year I plan to put out a pumpkin and give out candy. When I moved here in 2015, there were not many children that lived in our complex but since then, this place has more young families and most of the homes are occupied 365 days a year instead of only during season. Things are changing here in the CV and quickly. There is a new hockey rink being built just up the street from here and I expect these desert communities to grow. It is starting to remind me of living in the San Gabriel Valley in the 80’s and 90’s, not quite big city but not quite Mayberry. Speaking of small towns and communities the Ghosts of Kelso will be performing at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park Amphitheater on November 21, 2021 for the Sunday Sounds in the Park Concert Series. The last time they played at this park was just before the beginning of the pandemic. Here is a little sample of they guys in action from that day.

One thing that I am looking forward to is that they will be playing during the day and under perfect lighting conditions. Well, almost perfect. I was looking at the video and remember that there are lots of shadows to deal with but still the sun is the best form of lighting, for me.

The one thing I like about attending any concert in the park, no matter the music genre, is the people. I love watching the reaction that people have to hearing music. Some slightly move their head and others tap their feet or their fingers or both. There have been times when I have seen other men and sometimes women air guitaring or air drumming along as the music is playing. Before Hubby and I started dating in 2015, I had frequently attended free concerts when ever I could and did not have to work. Pershing Square in Downtown Los Angeles was one of my favorite spots to check out music. Some of the performers that I have seen there were the English Beat, 10,000 Maniacs, The Bodeans, Lou Gramm and many others. I was just looking through old FB photos for pictures I have taken at Pershing Square through out the years and laughed when I saw the photo of me ice skating!

That was a nice little jog through my memory bank. I opened up Facebook to copy a few photos from Pershing Square and fell into a rabbit hole. Really, I would like to download all my FB memories and put them on a flash drive and then close my account, I have been toying with it for a few years. A few months ago, I let my kids know that I was going to start to extremely limit my interactions on that platform as it just wasn’t fun anymore. Personally, I love to read about the life events but not so much the reposted bull crap like memes and inspirational quotes. Well, okay I laugh at most memes, but some of those reposts of other peoples rantings is scary, especially the one relating to vaccine or mask mandates. Really though, the only good thing about the rants and reposts, and there were a few, was that because these people were ranting in social media spaces, I now know who I need to keep a distance from, you know for my safeties sake. Tell us how YOU really feel instead of how some one else feels.…oh no, sorry about that, almost went off on a rant myself but know that it will only make me feel better, so oooh ooh look shiny object!

Oh yeah, on to another topic, I finished another painting! I tried to not rush through it like I do with most paintings. The painting is of a photo I took of my friend Angel during one of those practice shoots that i sued to do when I dreamed of being a photographer, a fashion photographer. Angel suggested Old town Indio that morning and it was the perfect spot.

This make me want to get back out there and shoot. Shoot photos with purpose and to help me create more paintings, like this one I just finished and is drying right now.

The photo shoot was done in front of a mural by artist Bijan Masoupanah and I just didn’t and couldn’t bring myself to try and recreate his painting. What i did was painted her first and then started adding different colors to the background. At first I wanted her standing in front of a wall.

The more I looked at it, she looked like she was dancing or maybe walking on the beach. Well, I put them both together. Now and forever, she is dancing in the moonlight on a beach somewhere instead of posing in front of a mural when she herself, as is all women are, a work of art.

Well, it is time for me to get back stuff. Really though, I just want to rest and maybe watch a movie today. Yesterday, I had visitors, little visitors. My grandsons spent a few hours with me yesterday while their Mom was working. I am a little worn out but it was so much fun! Can’t wait for them to come back! You should see my teeth baring grin right now.
