A walk in the park

Hello world! How is it going? You made it to March 7, 2023. Spring is definitely in the air as my nose knows. This past Sunday, I spent a few hours at Civic Center Park in Palm Desert, as the guys played the Sunday Sounds series presented by Palm Desert Public Library. This is their second time playing this event hosted by the Palm Desert Public Library.

This time I tried to catch the gig from different fixed angles as I am hoping to learn more about editing sound and video.

Sunday the weather was cool, but not freezing. We arrived at the park around noon and many people were at the park enjoying the day. Civic Center Park is located near College of the Desert and is quite a large park. It has baseball fields, a pond with ducks and turtles, and an aquatic center. Most importantly, there is a dog park. People started showing up with lawn chairs and blankets as the guys set up.

This is the third time that the guys have played at this park. I like these gigs because of the lighting provided by the sun. Even with the clouds, there was still plenty of glorious light to use. My eyes are having issues with focusing when the camera is pressed up against my presbyopic eye. I have adjusted the view finder but still have issues, so I am not sure if I am getting a crisp shot. Anyhow, I found a great setting on the Sony that does all the focusing for me. Unfortunately, I did not find that feature until after I snapped a few band photos and a few of the guys during their set.

If you dear reader live in the Coachella Valley or are visiting, do check out the Palm Desert Library for future events. The guys will be back at the Cantina March 25 if you are looking for things to do.

The weather has been gorgeous. Hubby and I have taken a few drives around the valley to check out all the snow that our area mountains received in the last storm. Sometimes, well, most of the time, when we are out on drives, I feel like I am a tourist. I have lived here in this valley for almost 8 years, and I never fail so see something new to ooh and aah over. That is the beauty of light, it changes the looks of the scenery.

The palm trees make a great contrast against the snowy mountains.

Today is my 53rd birthday. Woohoo! I made it! If today is your birthday, as well, then Happy Birthday to you!

Hubby got me eggs!!! No, really, he made me a card (swoon) and got me cake!!!

For birthdays, mine specifically, I only ever want one thing, well two, but I can talk about one of my wants, CAKE! I love birthday cake and all the sugary frosting. Yeah, I know there are people out there wrinkling up their noses and cringing and the thought of all that sugary frosting. Oooph, had to wipe the drool from my lips. Right now, Hubby is making a fresh pot of coffee and I will be enjoying breakfast cake and coffee. Smiling, thinking about all those “bad mother breakfasts” from the past.

Below are a few of the many pics of me throughout the past few years.

There are so many pics that I wanted to post. It took me a long time going through them as I kept remembering the events or what was happening at the time the photos were snapped. Well, time to get on with the day. Before I go, here are a few pics of my cake so you can celebrate along with me.

Thank you, dear reader, for visiting. May today be full of sweet surprises and may you get to wherever you are going, safely. Hugs to you and you and especially you!

  1. Happy Birthday Michelle! I think your photos are always great. And I’m with you about cake slathered in frosting. I LOVE IT!

We had out of town houseguests for 8 days (they left this morning), and while a few days were chilly for them, I was glad they got to see our beautiful mountains covered in snow.

Hi Jeff! Thanks for the kind words on the photos. Much appreciated. I never thought having to wear bifocals was going to affect my shooting.
Yes, something about the frosting that takes me back to my childhood home and the neighborhood bakery that made those special cakes.
Hopefully, you got to see some of the snow or hail that fell around Palm Springs. Your guests must have enjoyed the view and if they flew out of PSP, I can only imagine. 🙂

I hope you had the most excellent birthday and enjoyed a few slices of your sweet little cake! Your picture of the palm trees against the snow-capped mountains says it all about California’s weather right now. So weird! But it sure makes a great shot!

The cake was yummy and went well with coffee. It was a good day 🙂

You are right about our weather,it sure is weird, but really, we should be getting rain around this time of year. In the last few years, we had La Nina, which cause our draught conditions. This year, we are expecting El Nino and lots of rain. Fingers crossed because California sure needs it.
