Freshly Popped

***edited

Tuesday night, April 5, 2022, Hubby and I headed over the hill to Pappy n’ Harriet’s for a special date night. I was there like the 52 year old fan girl that I am, to see Caroline Rose perform. However, what I did not expect was Number One Popstar!

Number One Pop Star (AKA Kate Hollowell).

This show had been on my calendar since I saw the post indicating that Carolyn Rose would be doing a show at Pappy n’ Harriet’s in Pioneer Town. I quickly ordered tickets and waited and hoped that this show would not be canceled. Yeah, I know, pandemic restrictions are still fresh in all of our minds. One thing for certain, you can never take a concert ticket or any ticket to a live performance, for granted. You know, things happen, performers are people just like us fans and they get sick or have bad days and sometimes, the show can’t and won’t go on. I am so glad that this came to fruition and I was able to experience a night of youthful exuberance and talent.

As I mentioned, I did not know about Number One Popstar before yesterday. Honestly, I had not looked at the ticket as the price for it was so low that I thought there was no way two bands would be performing. While we were waiting at the table for the show to start, I noticed her walking around and talking to everyone. Her smile is what got me. She has an impish grin that makes you anticipate something funny or important about to tumble out her mouth. Here is a sample of her in action.

While we were waiting in line we could here her running a sound check.

Usually, we get to things “fashionably late”. However, I knew that I wanted to secure a seat in the restaurant, close to the stage, so we arrived before the line opened. It was cool to see the wide variety of fans waiting to see these entertainers. There were families with young kids, young adults and people around our age (over-grown teenagers).

During Popstars set, she brought kids on stage. Too friggin’ cute!

So, I knew nothing about the first act but her contagious energy got me dancing even though I knew none of her music. I liked her music so much I spent an hour or so checking out her music on Youtube. By the way, I think you should as well (I included a link to Youtube). Do check out her song, I Hate Running and I dare you to take it for a spin during your next exercise session. You may end up laughing as her lyrics are just, hmmm, rich, lively, and funny as folk.

This photo looks about how my head was feeling at that moment.

After the opening act, I patiently waited in the spot that I had secured behind the drummer of Rose’s band. Most people want to get good pictures of the entertainers, me, I geeked out on the bands equipment. Rose plays the coolest Epiphone. It looks like a Wilshire but not for certain. I tried my hardest to get good photos but my brain decided it had enough of the show. I tried to push through and managed to stand there for a few songs. Unfortunately, I was not able to get many photos but the band rocked that house! I was more concerned about causing a scene if I would have passed out. Fingers crossed I get another chance to see them.

One minute with Caroline Rose and band at Pappy n Harriet’s.

For me, being in a crowded room while a band performs gives me anxiety, like sweaty palms, gassy stomach, fainting and seizures. Stage lights can set me off. Last night, I could feel the room closing in on me and the familiar halos started clouding my vision. Besides, there were other fans like me standing in that area, and I didn’t want to be greedy as most of them were shorter than I. That was my cue to leave my precious spot behind the drummer. I stepped outside and clumsily talked to the lady that was running the concession table. She had asked me about how I heard about the band and I mentioned that I had first heard Caroline Rose on a new music channel on Sirius. Also, while I was trying to gather my bearings, Ms. Hollowell walked by and I blurted out how amazing I thought she was. (See, definition of fan girl… )She, Popstar, was the kindest and spoke with me briefly. My bad for not asking to get a photo with her.

We left the venue around 10:15PM. The show was not near being finished. I tried my hardest to hold out to hear a few more of the hits like Money or I Took A Ride but like I said, I was not feeling it. All in all, it was a great evening and it felt so good to be in that place with all those music loving people.

Thank you, dear reader, where ever in the world you are. May today be the day that you do that thing, you know that thing! Be safe, be kind and hug it out like it there is no tomorrow.

DO check out these talented, energetic, funny and magical group of musicians.

I appreciate that you had anxiety and dealt with it well. I want to get back into live music but anxiety is a concern for me now. And the thing about leaving at 10 or thereabouts. That’s like me. My woman and I would like to do karaoke and she is a good singer. But we puzzle over how to stay out that late if we are sober. And neither of us should drink, ever, so it’s one of those things about getting older and trying to behave while also feeling lame 😆

I hear you saying whether the live performance would be there under this situation until…say, everything clears, but lucky you, or you’re just good girl for the gifted moment😁

OMG really!? it’s so good right!?😋 That’s our quick lunch regular item..never makes us disappoint but leaves aromatic aftertaste! You should sprinkle them over to fried noodles or fried rice too, it’s so versatile to make your food extra yum😊

Yes, I ordered from your link 😁 looking forward to trying it with other stuff. Maybe soup 🍲

I used to like dried shrimp. Ummm, my mom used to make these fried cakes with a spicy sauce for them. My friends and I would eat it straight out of the bag! Like it was chips.

Music is a great help with anxiety. It did suck that it made me leave the show early but it hasn’t stopped me from trying to overcome it.

Have a great day Trish 😀

whoohoo! It sounds like a fun evening, but I can see why all the excitement made your head spin! Honestly, almost everything I do these days feels strange and “scary” after all the time we spent cooped up during the worst stages of the pandemic. Getting out to see live music is always fun though, so I hope a few more outings will help you get your bearings and enjoy it to the fullest!

It was so much fun, even with the anxiety. I agree with you on that, as the pandemic changed lots of my thinking too. Hopefully it will get easier for me because there are lots of entertainment I would like to see in th future 😊
