Et Tu?

Beware the Ides of March! Today is March 15th, 2023, and you have made it! In the William Shakespeare play, Julius Ceasar, Ceasar ignored both a soothsayer and his wife Calpurnia’s premonitions about his impending doom. The most poignant part of the play is when Ceasar is stabbed by Casca and then he looks up and utters “Et Tu, Brute?” before, Brute finishes the deal and plunges a dagger into Ceasar. There is way more to that story and hopefully, it is still required reading for Sophomore English. Just thinking about that play, I am imaging certain members of senate and congress, backstabbing and biting each other, and getting taxpayer dollars to do it…Oh sorry, I promised myself that I was going to step away from the news and politics, but it still keeps seeping into my thoughts, but not as much as it once did. At least at this moment, I am really only thinking about walking in the rain later this morning, maybe checking out another Desert X installation and what we are having for breakfast this morning. Viva, the retired life.

This past week, Hubby and I have been driving around the Coachella Valley checking out the Desert X exhibits. So far, we have seen three of them. There are or were twelve exhibits as a few of the exhibits were performances. On Sunday, we headed up Highway 74 to see A Liquid Place.

This exhibit was easy to find as it has been setup up near a highly traveled hiking trail. This was one of my favorites so far, as it was so nice to see all the people interacting with the art. Hubby and I even met a very nice man and his companions. At that time, we were the only three people at the site. Hubby climbed the stairs first and then said, “come up!” So. I did! Stairs scare me, but I made it up there and that is where we started talking to the nice man and his dogs, Max and Marty.

I loved see all the families enjoying the site.

While we were there, I noticed a drone overhead. The skies were so pretty with the puffy white clouds so before we left, I started filming the drone. When I have been at events and I need to focus my camera, I sometimes will use a drone, if there any flying around, to dial in my settings. If I can read any markings on it, then I am good. Anyhow, that drone was buzzing ahead while we were up on the piece. I would love to find the person who was flying the drone as I would love to see the footage.

The exhibits are on display through May 7, 2023. I am sure we will be checking out a few more in the coming weeks.

Borrego Springs is one of my favorite day tripping places.

Yesterday, Hubby asked what I wanted to do; and I had just seen an Instagram post from @borregobuzz announcing a new art piece by metal artist, Ricardo Breceda. So, we headed out to Borrego Springs. I am still going through all pics and video but here are a few from yesterday as we had quite an adventure. Not only did we get to see the “Wilson!” (Sorry, I always relate movie moments to real life moments…d’oh!”) but we also checked out a few of Breceda’s other sculptures as well as drove around La Casa Del Zorro.

Keep your eyes open. Art is everywhere.

La Casa Del Zorro is a resort that I hope we can stay in this summer as they have casitas with private spas! We spent a few hours wandering around Borrego Springs and then headed toward home. Hubby took the back way so that we could look for Slot Canyon. The last time we tried to find it, we missed the sign and kept going. This time, Hubby researched and knew where to go. He turned onto a marked, dirt road and then Siri said, “Your destination 1.9 miles.” as I had kept Google maps open. We drove down an unpaved, rocky path for what seemed like a half of an hour and then we saw a car and people and knew we were in the right place. There were many cars, and I could see several people on the trail that leads into the slot canyon.

I was in awe! The landscape was other-worldly. From that parking lot, you have a clear view of the Anza-Borrego Desert as well as Borrego Springs, although way in the distance. We did not hike through the slot but hope to next time. I think that I will be ordering hiking sticks for future trips as I saw a few people with them. The trail is 1 mile long and I read somewhere that it was a moderately, easy hike that even I could maneuver with my disabilities.

The sky looked ominous as we looked around and were deciding if we were going to do it. We chose to leave and try it at a later time. It was such a great day trip especially since we traveled less than a total of 100 miles for the entire ride. I look forward to more exploring and even taking more photos. Time to get up and get our day going. My stomach is whining louder than Tacobelle before her morning feeding.
