Good morning world! You made it to October 21, 2021 and that is a great thing! Halloween is only 10 days away and Christmas is two months away. I know, right? Right now it is 4 AM and a chilly 60 degrees. I am still recovering from our weekend and have almost finished reviewing all the photos and video from our trip. It has me looking forward to the next trip, when ever or where ever that may be. I have been hinting quite loudly that I would like take a trip to Utah as an old school friend posted that he drove there and back (from the Pasadena, CA area) in one day. Anyhow, I am sure where ever our next little excursion will be, we will make the best of it. Here is a little traveling music by Leon Brock, singing about Borrego Springs and Jilberto’s Taco shop.
This weekend, as I mentioned in my last post, we stayed overnight at the Palm Canyon Hotel and RV Resort located in Borrego Springs. This resort lists “glamping” on their sign so I looked the website and saw that we could rent an vintage trailer to stay in. Hubby and I have pipe dreams of traveling the US in a van or RV so I figured this would give us a little taste of what it might be like. Let me tell ya’, I had a blast! It is definitely not a four star resort but it was a four star experience!

The set up was nice and did block out some of the wind.
We stayed in an Airstream Queen bed trailer. I thought it was the coolest when we walked in. When I was a kid, I had dreamed about staying in an RV as I had only been camping a few times and I remember all the curse words that I had learned from the people (my brother-in-laws) that were putting up the tents. When we arrived at check-in time, it was quite windy. I remember frowning as I thought it would be impossible to cook dinner outside. I quietly prayed that the wind would die down and it did (thank you!). I prepared our dinner in foil packets and and we sat outside while it cooked. Hubby brought our guitars and he played a little while I was cooking. Just like heaven, I tell ya. After our meal, we took a short drive, a few blocks up the street from the resort to the Anza Borrego State Park. We parked in the handicap spot and I grabbed my camera and we went for a stroll. The last time we were at this park it was early in the morning and the skies were a brilliant blue from what I remember. This time it was dusk and the light was soft on the land.
The park has many marked paths to explore. We headed toward the Visitor Center. Along the walk, I spotted a bench and we walked over to it so we could sit as the sun set to the West of us.
While we were sitting there we could here a loud humming coming from the sky. We both searched the sky to see where the noise was coming from. Hubby then said there it is and pointed to the sky. Above us and flying west were a couple of large aircrafts, possibly drones. I tried to get a video of them as they flew overhead.
We sat there for a bit and just relaxed and enjoyed each others company and the scenery and then headed toward the parks Visitor’s Center that was closed at that time of the day.
We headed back to the trailer after that to get some rest. Back at the trailer, we lit the fire ring, made coffee and sat outside for a bit. The night was cool but not freezing and luckily the air was calm. The moon, although not full, lit up the sky like a lightbulb.
Sleep was comfortable on that queen size bed. I thought I would feel claustrophobic because of the tight space of the sleeping area but I guess I was too tired and fell asleep quickly around 8 PM.
Even though we were on a “vacation” I still got up at my usual time. I moved to the front of the trailer so I could read and didn’t want to disturb Hubby as he slept. Around 4:30 AM, we headed out into the darkness to watch the sunrise. Hubby drove up the street from the resort where we had been earlier. Sunrise was scheduled for 6:55 AM that morning and we only had about 15 minutes to get to the Lookout so we only stayed at that spot for a few minutes, The sky was just waking up as we parked on the hill.
The Big Dipper 
After sunrise we were heading back to the trailer when Hubby asked if i would like to see anything else. I always want to visit the iron sculptures in the Galleta Meadows so we headed over to see them.
The Iron Sculptures are the creation of artist Ricardo Breceda. According to Google, there are 130 sculptures and we have only seen about twenty of them. This time we saw a few that we had not seen before like the camel above and we also saw ones that we have seen several times like the serpent.
This time we checked out a few new ones for us.
One of the sculptures caught my eye and I knew which one it was, The Padre. I had seen pictures of it. My mind thought it was an homage to St. Francis, the patron saint of animals.
There was something peaceful about this sculpture and it gave me a feeling of warmth. The detail on the face of the Padre is remarkable. It made me feel like a child as I stood there studying it and then taking photos of it. Do stop and visit this one if you are ever in the area. Shortly after that, we returned back to the trailer for breakfast. It was only 7:30 AM and we or me I should say, was going to make the most of our twenty four hour trip.
For once, I under packed! I did not bring enough kitchen comforts and had to use foil to cook almost everything. Making bacon was a little scary but it turned out just right. After breakfast we relaxed a bit and then got ready for the ride home.
It was a nice little get away and i would recommend it to almost everyone. Staying in the trailer was super fun but there were moments when I almost tripped as I have foot drop and there were plenty of places to catch my toe on and fall. For this reason, I would not recommend staying in the trailers to anyone that requires walking aids. However, there is a hotel on the property that features ADA approved rooms and I recommend staying in one of those. Do check out the website or contact the resort if you are planning a trip there as it will make your experience that much more enjoyable.
We left just before check out and in search of Slot Canyon. GPS directions were a little off, maybe next time we will find it. Hubby mentioned Buttes Pass as we passed that sign. Cool adventure! I’ve slept in a horse trailer but not an Airstream.

That sounds like an adventure, sleeping in a horse trailer. Hopefully it wasn’t because you were caring for a sick horse. 🐴

Nope! There are living quarters in the front, as fancy as any Airstream, and the back is where we load the horses to haul. While we camp they have stalls.

Oh, I see. Makes sense though since we often see horse trailers on the road and some license plates are from the other side of the US. Really though, it does sound like an adventure and it had me daydreaming about going on rides before settling in for the night around a campfire. Gosh, that sounds so peaceful.
